Significant creep in the concrete caused ± 3/4” variations in the gap between the intake gate and the concrete sealing surface. Coupled with a low sealing pressure, the standard seal designs were too stiff to bridge this gap.

Using FEA and empirical techniques, DRC designed a seal cross -section with enough flexibility to bridge the ± 3/4” gap while resisting being inverted by the water pressure. Delthane85NSE was used for its excellent toughness, resilience and low coefficient of friction.

Inspections throughout the first year of operation revealed zero leakage.
